    WWII Brass ARP Bell
    This is a great vintage ARP brass bell marked on the bottom rim, with J B and the number 39 under it on the top shoulder - the bell inside is marked England in black and has the original iron clanger - there is a 2 1/4 inch bolt where the handle goes - the wood handle is missing.  The bell measures 4 inches high and 5 inches in diameter and is in great vintage condition, with surface wear, nicks and dings, and is in untouched condition

    In Britain during the Second World War if a gas attack was suspected, the Aid Raid Precautions (ARP) warden would give a warning locally by wood hand rattle and when the "all clear" was announced, the warden would let the local population know by ringing the hand bell.
