Description
This came from a large collection of trench art at an recent auction. Here is an amazing relic from the battle of Crete. This is a fired British Navy 2-pdr shell made into a piece of trench art and put on a pedestal. The shell was flared to make a vase. I took the shell off the base and took an image of it, and it has a 1940 date. The Dido was actually a somewhat famous ship, besides being hammered at Crete taking British and other Empire soldiers to safety. It sailed to America in order to repaired and outfitted with additional guns. It only stands 7 inches tall, but how often to ID'd souvenirs come from this battle?
