    Description

    Palo Alto bicycles, located in Palo Alto, California, built some nice in-house bikes. My best guess is that this one is from the late eighties. The Shimano components (crankset and derailleurs) have 1987 date codes.
    I'm no expert on Palo Alto bikes but back in the 80's I worked near their shop and would
    occasionally
    wander by and drool. I believe this bike is original except for the cables/housing and bar tape, possibly the tires and saddle as well. It's a great adaptation from its day of a high end road bike with mountain gearing.
    Frame and fork are Columbus tubing. The headset is an Avocet. Brake levers and caliopers are Suntour Superbe with Superbe brake pads. Seatpost is SR Laprade, Avocet saddleStem is Cinelli and and handlebars are Cinelli Giro D'Italia (38cm).
    Wheels are 27", Mavic 36 spoke rims, Campagnolo Record hubs and Specialized Touring Turbo 27x 1 1/8 tires.
    Drivetrain is Shimano Deore with Biopace 48/38/28 rings, a five speed freewheel and Campagnolo downtube shifters.
    Pedals are Suntour Superbe.
    This bike is a fully functioning bicycle but it's so clean for its age that it makes a great wall hanger. Shows very little use and all bearings are smooth.
