Description

Really nice Guadalupe Poppy Jasper Slab displaying cream-colored, red outlined orbs across the golden-yellow background.  There is no shortage of pattern on this piece - tons of cabochon possibilities.  Plenty of orbs to be captured in multiple cabochon possibilities.  The stone has been left natural with no treatments.  This is a nice solid piece with no vugs.  There are multiple healed fractures typical for the California stones due to high seismic activity in the state  (the dark line is an old healed fracture that you can minimally feel when running a nail across the surface).  Our slabs are generally shown wet to show the eventual polished potential, though some photos are dry.   The pictures on the clear stand in the photo gallery are wet, the rest are dry.  Slabs are sold 'as is' as shown in the photos and are not substituted.  The item you see is the item you are purchasing (display items are not included).
This slab weighs 64.8 grams (324.0 carats) and measures 7 cm x 6 cm x 6.5 mm.  Measurements are approximate and are measured from the longest or widest points; the thickness is measured in the middle.    Jasper runs 6.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
Many Poppy Jaspers are found in areas with high seismic activity and often carry fractures.  Orbicular jasper is expectedly formed through volcanic activity where the molten fluids carry liquid silica and iron through porous volcanic rock filling holes with these liquid materials.   Guadalupe Poppy  Jasper is a rare jasper that was originally found in the Guadalupe Reservoir near San Jose (near Morgan Hill), California.  Often in a mustard-yellow or gray-green background with red, poppy-like orbs with off-white to yellow centers.  The mine this form of jasper is closed and many consider this variety an extinct Jasper other than what exists in old collections.  A highly sought after collector stone.  Also known as Almaden Jasper.

Please inspect your stones prior to your use to avoid unexpected breaks later.  It breaks my heart to see my husband test a slab by putting pressure to a suspected weak spot and sometimes snaps a slab (if it has a weak spot), but, if you don't test it, half way through your cabochon, it could naturally split on you.  Better to remove all doubt before starting.
We don't alter the colors in our photographs, though digital photo colors vary between cameras and depending on the lighting where the photos are taken so please view all photos before purchasing. Naturally lighted photos will be provided whenever possible, but some photos are taken indoors.  Photos of this piece were taken indoors, mainly dry but a few were taken wet to display the potential of this piece.  My apologies for any glare on any of the photos and the flash has a tendency to wash the colors, therefore, some photos may be with or without flash trying to capture the most lifelike appearance.
