Garden auriculas (hybrid primulas) bloom in early spring in shades of yellow, red, brown, blue, purple, and pink, with a yellow eye sometimes ringed or dusted with farina. Very hardy perennials, they are easy to grow in light shade at the front of a border or in a rock garden. Display them in classic terracotta pots or along a primrose path.
Seeds are collected from the plants pictured, and many others, grown in Edmonton, Canada: hardiness zone 3 (to -35C).
If you want seeds of a particular colour group, please send us a message. We can make the following packets:

Seeds may be started indoors at anytime (usually autumn and/or winter) or outdoors in late winter/very early spring. Surface sow on multi-purpose potting mix. Cover very lightly with coarse sand or grit and press in. Do not bury the seeds -- they need light to germinate. Keep indoors to germinate at room temperature, or set outdoors in a shaded, sheltered spot and leave to germinate in spring warmth.
(Some growers find that giving the sowing a wet-cold period -- several weeks in the refrigerator or outdoors under snow cover -- results in a higher rate of germination and more vigorous seedlings.)
Move crowded seedlings into a larger tray or separate pots; keep them evenly watered in a sheltered location away from direct midday sun. Plant seedlings into the garden in late summer when the weather turns cool. Expect flowers from the second spring onward. (Smaller plants that do not flower in spring may flower in late summer/early autumn; they should then begin regular spring flowering the following year.) More instructions will be included with the seeds.
