    Description

    (1)  Five beautiful  large obsidian preforms for knapping arrowheads, spearheads or knives.  With the exception of the first two photos taken in the shade, the photos of each individual preform were taken in the sunlight while the obsidian was wet.  The preform colors and bands, however, are more beautiful and brilliant when covered with water and viewed with the eye while moving them on different angles in the direct sunlight.  All were cut from slabs, ground into symmetrical shape, and are now ready for knapping or lenticular-grinding (followed by knapping), depending on your knapping preference.
    The lengths and widths are shown in the first two photos that I took in the shade while the obsidian was dry.  When you receive these pieces, you will see that they are solid with no  cracks.  Although one looks like it has a crack, this kind of line is common in obsidian of this type.  All preforms will chip beautifully and will make eye-catching points or knife blades.
    The thicknesses are as follows:
    Beginning from left to right in the first photo, the first preform is a little over 1/4" thick;
    The second one is 7/32" in thickness;
    The third preform is a little over 5/16";
    The fourth is 3/8"; and
    The fifth preform is a little under 3/8".
    Also, if you would like other preforms from rainbow obsidian or from other colors or types of obsidian, I will be happy to send you photos and arrange for you to purchase them on eBay.  Just let me know the lengths, widths and thickness that you would like.  I have a number of obsidian preforms that I have cut and ground from a variety of beautiful obsidian types from different parts of the world.
    An additional note to potential buyers -- obsidian of these types and certain other types of obsidian from northern California and southern Oregon are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain because many obsidian sources have been closed to the public.  Fortunately, this and other Oregon/California obsidian types that I am selling on eBay were obtained many years ago before many pits and areas were placed off-limits.
    Unfortunately, I ship only within the U.S.
