ENGLISH STERLING SILVER CASTLE TOP CHAMBER STICK
TAYLOR & PERRY 1855
Pleased to offer this very rare castle top sterling silver chamber
stick made by the well known and highly collectible makers of Taylor & Perry.  Of diminutive proportions, and obviously a ladies candlestick, that would be kept on her desk, and after all candles in the house had been extinguished at bedtime, she would light her chamber stick, to take with her on the way to her bed chambers, and placed by her side table, until in bed, and would then be snuffed out with the nozzle attached.
This wonderful piece is in amazing condition considering size and detail for being 165 years old!
The chamber stick measures 4 inches long by 3 inches wide, and stands 2 3/4 inches tall. Weighs 41 grams.
Stamped with T&P in an oval for Terry & Perry, lion passant for assayed English sterling, date letter of of "U" for 1844, leopards head for London, and the regent's head of Queen Victoria.

More typically the familiar scenes from the castle top series of souvenir silverware adorn the tops of vinaigrettes, card cases, baskets and snuff boxes. Other items less commonly seen display building scenes too, but this is the first time I have ever encountered a chamber stick.
The castles displayed on the chamber stick are Newstead Abbey, the home of the poet Lord Byron is embossed to the center of the base with the romanticized ruins of Kenilworth Castle, Abbotsford House, Warwick Castle and Windsor Castle to each side of the square base. These five locations were de rigueur destinations for wealthy travelers of the early Victorian period, who were taking advantage of the improved accessibility, following the advent of the railways.
Please Note the amazing detail of the castle and grounds including lake, foliage, boat, swans, and other attention to the hand work of the silversmith.
