A rare pair of early Victorian (1838) tapersticks, in a much earlier George II style, by Sheffield maker Samuel Walker & Co., featuring squared bobeches on a knopped column and a shaped stepped base with repoussé accents. They are stamped to the underside with the “S.W & Co” maker’s mark alongside three hallmarks for sterling, 1838, Sheffield, and a King William IV duty mark. Each 5 3/8" taperstick bears removable fully marked bobeches with scrolled knobs and foliate and ringed shafts. They are weighted and one shaft bears a clear EPOXY repair (sticks was at one point bent and in repairs, the silver split open. Repair is almost invisible and fully reversible if buyer chooses a permanent repair. With cement, they weigh about 7.5 troy ounces. A very rare an extremely ornate Pair of Silver tapersticks.
