CLEMATIS PANICULATA, PUAWHANANGA, NEW ZEALAND CLEMATIS
This is a beautiful evergreen perennial climber endemic to New Zealand. Very decorative leathery, dark green glossy leaves are divided into three broadly ovate leaflets to 10 cm long. Juvenile foliage with nicely lobed margins is even more ornamental. Leaf stalks are modified into touch- sensetive tendrils which grip adjacent vegetation. In summer and autumn are produced masses of large, snowy white, fragrant flowers (6-8 cm across) followed by shimmering, fluffy seed heads. This plant is important for Maori culture. It should be plant near a tree, shrub, pergola or other support it can clamber through. Excellent in pots and containers. Very suitable for patio, conservatory or growing as a home plant.

-Sow: any time indoors; just cover the seeds with soil; germination 30-40 days at 15- 20 C; if germination does not occur within a month, the seed can be placed in the refrigerator for about a month (3- 7 C) but usually it’s rarely needed.
-Aftercare: full sun to part shade and well drained , but not too dry soil; hardy to -20 C; some winter protection in coldest climates is reommended;
