This shrub goes by many names descriptive of its gorgeous flowers which resemble the bright yellow flame of a candle.
Grown as in annual in areas where the ground freezes, candlestick plant (emperor's candlesticks) provides a dramatic backdrop for the border when not in flower while its unique bright yellow flowers add a splash of color against its dark green leaves. Can also be container-grown and for that reason brought indoors to a sun room or greenhouse during winter in colder regions.
In its native habitat it forms a large shrub or tree 12-30’ tall. Grown as an annual it reach 6-8’ tall in one season—blooms late summer to early fall in the first year.
Its leaves have fungicidal properties and is used as a topical for treating ringworm other dermal infections.
