    Description

    British Navy Cordite Carrier.
This large, tall, impressive British Royal Navy leather cordite carrier bucket or 'Clarkson Case' was made in England by 'Barrow, Hepburn & Gale' of Bermondsey in London. It is a tall lidded cylindrical leather container with a large leather swing handle near the top, with a hinged leather lid and handle with a canvas handle down the side. There are some impressed markings on the lid, 'No 57 ‘III’ and 'B.H.& G.LTD' for the makers, and '8- 194?’ which I presume is the date. On the side, it is stamped in black ink with the military issue 'broad arrow' and a large 'N' for the navy. The carrier itself is in good condition and other than a few stains, scuff marks, knocks. The main seam is split on the lower half, and the leather cover on the lid is curling up but considering its age and obvious use, it's in a good overall condition with a lovely, weathered patina. The case stands 24 inches high, has a diameter of around 6 inches and weighs around 5 pounds.
