Our grand native walnut prized by wildlife for its seeds and its wood is much-sought after for veneer, cabinetry, gunstocks, and other woodworking producing the best furniture wood of our native trees.
Mature trees produces a pleasing oval to round crown and have long trunks without lower branching, hence the value as timber. Native to a wide range from New England to the Dakota, south to Florida and Texas.
Full nut production is at around twenty years though trees start producing when only four to six years old.
Our walnut seeds are cleaned of most of the husk staining for a better appearance—the husk decays during the
natural stratification process.
Also consider out other native walnut—
Juglans microcarpa
, little walnut (www.ebay.com/itm/143217118448), which bears
the smallest fruit of the walnut species. If you are interested in growing both species we offer both under separate listings or you can buy a combination here if you are looking for the famous black walnut and the
rare species, little walnut. The combo offered is for 5
Juglans
nigra
seeds and 15
Juglans microcarpa
seeds. Though you can tell the seeds apart by their appearance each species is packaged and labelled separately.
Note
: If you order more than one lot of one species of seeds, for example you place two orders of 100 seeds, or whatever variation is offered, we assume you want 200 seeds and your order will be sent in one seed packet.
Because of the way shipping is calculated by eBay for this item please request shipping adjustment at checkout if you are ordering more than one lot of this and any other seeds for your total order to Lea's Garden.
