: Seed needs no special pretreatment.
A fast-growing annual to the size of a small shrub. But don't let its size deter you because its open, airy form lends itself well to a mixed flower border adding height and light texture while allowing for underplantings—a great filler plant for height. In summer peach-colored and tinged by pink or red pea flowers hang gracefully, swaying with the slightest breeze. Can be container-grown.
After flowering green seed pods develop as is typical for the legumes. The pods eventually mature to a tan to tannish-brown color consisting of a soft, papery texture—these are great for dried floral arrangement and remain on the plant through the winter until spring. Each seed is, quite uniquely, covered by its own papery covering inside the papery pod.
