    Description

The Antovoka apple is a tart apple with high acid that mellows after storage. It makes a great French Apple cake or old fashioned apple pie. In North America it is is primarily grown for it's characteristics as a very hardy rootstock to graft other apple cultivars to. Antonovka can also be grown out on their own, and the seeds grow true to type. The tree flowers in April (depending on your region) and the resulting apples are green and acidic and late maturing. They are great for making apple pies and other preserves. As a rootstock Antonovka is more suited to wet soils than other apples.
Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Cold stratify for 60 days in moist medium in the fridge. Monitor the seeds regularly for mold, and germination. Sow seeds 1/4" deep and firm soil. Seeds can also be wintersown outside in early fall- let nature do the work!
As with most fruits/trees, we recommend potting the seedlings up to a 3 or 4" pot to start, then switching to a half gallon or gallon sized pot as it grows. Harden seedlings off very slowly and keep them in a sheltered location (morning and evening sun but avoiding scorching noon sun), until they can take a bit more. By late summer they should be ready to adjust to their permanent location. Plant once the leaves drop, and at least 6 weeks before the ground fully freezes over. Protect young seedlings from mice/deer and other wildlife.

***Why are there 5 seed “tester packs” on some listings? I really enjoy growing and trying new things. Often I spot an interesting plant, shrub or tree
    of which
I really want just a few seeds.
On selected listings “tester packs” may be available
    for a small fee
    .
If you end up liking what you grew, you can then continue on to save and multiply the seeds yourself.
Seeds are hand collected and sorted and some smaller seeds may contain some chaff. This does not affect seed count.
Seed size may vary; this is especially applicable to larger seeds like beans.
