ANTIQUE ORIGINAL HEAVY BRONZE OR BRASS SIGMA NU ON WOOD WALL PLAQUE
I bought this at an estate auction of an old century home in Salem Ohio. This plaque hung with other memorabilia and artwork from the late 1800's through the early 1900's. I cannot date it exactly but I believe it is very early and could be from the early 1920's which was shortly after the inception and adoption of this coat of arms design which was in 1915. It is some kind of metal, most likely bronze or bronze (shows gold color that looks like brass through the darker parts) on a black painted wood shaped shield. It is very heavy weighing 5.5 pounds total and from it's weight and intricate detail, this was probably a very high quality and expensive piece. The wood part measures 17"x15.75" and the metal part is 9.75"x9". It is in great condition with a little white paint on the right side and a small (tight) crack in the wood-see pics. I did not remove the metal part from the wood and there may be more information imprinted on the back as to when and who made this. There are 16 pictures to look through. Selling as is. Thanks!
