    Raising hybrid
    Streptocarpus (Cape Primrose)
from seed is a great indoor project for gardeners and plant lovers.
    We are offering a
    mix
of seeds from several seedlings raised from seed out of the named hybrid Streptocarpus cultivar 'DS Neznyi Angel' (second and last pictures). Plants raised from these seeds will be grandchildren of 'DS Neznyi Angel.' Many large, ruffled, bicolored flowers, such as 'DS Neznyi Angel' do not produce seeds, or rarely do.  We found one pod containing around 25 seeds. Of the plants raised from these seeds, around one-third are female fertile. They others are female infertile but do produce pollen. The seeds offered here are from the female fertile seedlings out of DS Neznyi Angel. They were hand-pollinated with each other, with other seedlings from 'DS Nezyni Angel,' and with other named cultivars that have large, ruffled, bicolored flowers (some of these can be seen in our other listings).
These seeds were produced in 2019 and 2020 and collected in autumn and winter. Stored cool and dry, they will remain viable for two years or longer.
The second and last photos show 'DS Neznyi Angel.' The other ten photos show plants raised from seeds out of 'DS Neznyi Angel.'
Plants raised from these seeds will not be identical to the parent(s). Some will resemble one or both of the parents in colour, form, or markings, and some may not closely resemble either parent. Expect to be surprised and delighted.
We sometimes post photos of plants raised from our seeds on the blog Primrose Fields: Scenes from a Garden in Edmonton, Canada.
Seeds begin to sprout around two weeks after sowing, and first flower buds can appear 4-6 months later (depending on the time of year and growing conditions). Display your potted plants outdoors in summer, in a cool, shady spot, or keep them indoors in a window or under lights. A well-tended plant at its peak, usually beginning in late spring, will cascade with blossoms for many weeks, and can go on flowering, at a lesser rate, through autumn and right up to the darkest days of winter. Streps are easy, rewarding houseplants all year round. We have them sitting in windows on every side of the house, where they flourish in bright, indirect natural light.
The seeds are very small and can be tricky to handle, but each packet is sure to contain more than the stated number. We also provide a page of detailed instructions to get you started.
