Gardenia is a perennial flowering shrub. The beauty of its flowers is compared to roses. It belongs to the madder family. The name of the flower was given by a naturalist from America-Alexander Garden. In nature — an evergreen shrub. There are varieties of the tree type with a height of up to two meters. The branches are powerful, with or without pubescence. Leaves are paired, small in size. A characteristic feature is the dense, leathery stipules of a triangular shape. The location on the shoots is crosswise opposite.
Blooms profusely with white flowers. The flowers are arranged in the corners of the leaves one at a time. Blooms from mid-summer to mid-autumn. The fragrance is gentle and pleasant. After flowering, a sessile fruit of a cylindrical or pear-shaped shape is formed.

Instructions for planting and care
You will need a wide pot or container. As a substrate, you can use a ready-made mixture for azaleas or make a suitable soil (read about what kind of soil mixture is needed for gardenia here). You will need: peat; sand; coniferous earth. All ingredients are mixed in equal proportions. A day before planting, the seeds are soaked in warm boiled water. It is added 1-3 drops of growth stimulants per 100 ml of water. Seeds are planted to a depth equal to their diameter-4-5 mm, the distance between them is 3-4 cm. At the bottom of the pot is filled with drainage, for example, expanded clay. The height of the layer is 1/3 of the container. Prepared soil is poured on top. The seeds are laid out on the surface, sprinkled with a soil mixture on top and moistened. The pot is covered with a plastic bottle or bag to form and maintain greenhouse conditions. The container needs heat (21-25°C), if necessary, ground heating is organized. Humidity is maintained by spraying. Sprouts sprout at different rates, the first appear after a week, and the other takes 2 months. Some sprouts still have a seed coat. It does not allow the plant to develop. Flower growers try to get rid of it in various ways. High humidity helps the separation, it is worth wrapping the shell with wet cotton wool, and then carefully remove it. After the appearance of the second pair of leaves, the seedlings are distributed in separate pots. The container should be 2-3 cm larger than the lump of earth with which the plant is transplanted. Young sprouts are not yet ready for indoor conditions, they are covered with cut plastic bottles to maintain the microclimate. After a month, they will have to be transplanted again and perform the first top dressing. The fertilizer for azaleas is taken, but it is diluted in a concentration half as low as indicated.
